1 – Find the Right Dentist

You have to find the right dentist for you before you’ll feel more comfortable. It’s not always easy to pick a dental office where you feel at ease, especially if you’re already anxious, but asking to schedule a consultation where you’ll simply sit down and talk to a dentist may be a good solution. These one on one discussions are typically low or no stress situations since you won’t be receiving any treatment. You can take time to talk about the genesis of your anxiety and determine how the dentist can help you overcome your fears. Following a consultation, you should have a good idea whether or not this dentist and office are right for you. If you don’t feel comfortable, try a different practice until you find one that meets your needs.

2 – Take Time to Fully Understand Procedures

Before you begin any treatment, let your dentist know you are anxious. Ask the dentist to walk you through what’s going to happen step by step. Take time to ask as many questions as you need to in order to feel confident that the procedure is safe.
